Mary called last night
it was really rather routine
she once told me I saved her life
and I called her a drama queen
but that was Mary
a diva of the meek
Mary called last night
She didn’t have any pain
maybe you can be like her
if i can touch you from this far away
you’d be like Mary
before she went away
I saw my father once
in a quiet side of the yard
In a spot I’d forgot as the years grew hard
Mary called last night
then I took my truck on the road
I struck my fist upon the dash
cause I had to get back to the phone
I remembered Mary
she died two years ago
